Reflections from Sydney Airport

Faithful Readers,

We are currently in the Sydney International airport waiting for the flight back home.

Last night we ended our Down Under trip with an evening at Darling Harbour. This is obviously the place that Sydneysiders enjoy, as many were there along the water, at the many bars and restaurants. The entire Harbour is ringed with entertainment venues, including an IMAX theater. Much fun was had by all, and I enjoyed some top-flight Fajitas. Mexican food has obviously become a world cuisine.

Getting ready for departure this morning we watched the news as the NSW police are dealing with two suspected incidents of police brutality on the night of Mardi Gras. You will be able to find the stories through Google.

It is a sad circumstance, but I must say that the police are handling it very seriously, and I trust that the truth will out. The Ass’t Police Commissioner was quite thorough and forthcoming about the seriousness of the investigation.

It isn’t paradise here, but it is very nice. NZ is a spectacularly beautiful country, and Australia has much beauty, and a huge vibrancy about it. Sydney has big-city ills, but they seem to be working on them. It is a tad expensive here, but there is universal government healthcare (a civilized nation!) and a lower level of violent crime than we have in the States.

It was truly a gift to be able to share the life of these two nations, even if briefly. If we ever have a chance to come back, there is so much more to experience and learn.

Please send light for a safe flight, and I will post after we return home to Angus!

… Sorry for the brevity and typos: Sent from remote on the phone.

Thank you!
